ABOUT US

My brother Anthony and I grew up in Madison, WI. Like many families in Madison, a trip to the Farmer's Market or Concerts on The Square could never feel complete without a stop at Teddywedgers. On warm days we would sit down on the Capitol lawn to eat and enjoy the view. On cold days we'd warm up eating Teddywedgers at the Oveture Center while watching our Mom play the violin.

Teddywedgers was first opened by Myles Allen in 1976, on Johnson Street. Originally from Linden WI, Myles first learned to make pasties at his father's restaurant, where they were served as a weekly special.

He decided to open his own shop serving pasties (meat, potatoes and veggies baked inside a flaky dough crust). Miners, called Teddy Boys, would eat pasties for lunch in the mines, calling them 'Tater Wedges'. Myles married the two phrases and named Madison's first pasty shop 'Teddywedgers'.

Myle's passed away and longtime employee Raymond Johnson bought the shop. Three years later, he put the shop up for sale, and my brother and I decided to try our hand at keeping this Madison icon going.

Stop by, say hi and grab a delicious, hearty pasty.
